EVENING EVENT: To mark the 2017 UK India Year of Culture we shall be celebrating the life and work of the prolific Indian modern painter Lancelot Ribeiro (1933 – 2010). Connect with this pivotal artist whose intense output reflected a lifetime of experimentation. Regarded as the ‘godfather to a generation of artists using acrylics as an alternative to oils’, we look at his life, his work in the V&A, and his rare but lesser known pieces, which include ceramics and sculptures. David Buckman, Ribeiro’s biographer, will explore the artist’s journey of experimentation. Writer, Broadcaster and Composer, Gerard McBurney, revisits his “strange and beautiful” encounter with Ribeiro. The evening will feature poetry and music, an opportunity to view works by Ribeiro held within the V&A collection, and a drinks reception. ‘Retracing Ribeiro’ Exhibition continues at Burgh House until 19 March 2017 http://www.burghhouse.org.uk/whats-on/exhibitions/retracing-ribeiro/
