This series contains papers relating to a number of different subjects. Firstly it contains those relating to the administration and policy of the Visual Arts Department, such as the minutes and papers of the various Advisory Panels and Committees serviced by the Department, files on budgeting and planning exercises, papers relating to dealings with other Arts Council departments and cross-departmental initiatives and papers relating to staffing and trades union relations.
Secondly it contains papers relating to conferences, publications, research and other one-off projects with which the Visual Arts Department were involved.
Finally it contains miscellaneous material such as correspondence, and printed ephemera that was kept for informational purposes, such as miscellaneous publicity material, copies of magazines and so on.
After 1986 the Council's activities in film were managed by the Film, Video and Broadcasting Department. Therefore, see also ACGB/54 for later papers relating to policy and information in the area of film.
