Arts Council of Great Britain: records, 1928-1997

Series description

Series title: Drama Department: Theatre Manuals, 1943-1992
Reference: ACGB/42
Extent: 112 folders

Scope and content

This series contains 'Theatre Manuals' originally compiled by Jessica Morton (Drama Assistant) in 1981. Each 'Theatre Manual' contains information on a building-based theatre company, including minutes from board meetings, budgets, annual reports, details of seat prices, programmes, correspondence, press releases, and plans for theatre (re)building projects. Folders entitled 'Theatre Manual Documents' contain mainly printed publicity material; however, not all printed publicity material has been separated from the 'Theatre Manual' in question.

The series also contains one file entitled 'Mini Manuals,' which concerns non-building based theatre companies: fringe, community, touring and local touring.

Arrangement

The series has been kept in its original order; this is generally alphabetical, but with occasional divergences. The seven folders comprising the file 'Mini Manuals' are also organised alphabetically (with occasional divergences).
