This series contains papers relating to a number of different subjects. Firstly it contains those relating to the administration and policy of the Music Department, such as the minutes and papers of the various Advisory Panels and Committees serviced by the department, files on budgeting and general financial information, policy files, papers relating to dealings with other Arts Council departments and cross-departmental initiatives.
Secondly it contains files relating to the Contemporary Music Network and Opera For All, two of the main areas of direct provision by the department.
Thirdly it contains reports and papers relating to conferences, enquiries, publications and research on music and other arts affairs. Finally it contains miscellaneous material, such as correspondence and printed ephemera, that was kept for informational purposes.

Access to unpublished material less than 30 years old is subject to the written permission of the Arts Council of England. Apply in the first instance to the Archive of Art and Design at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
