Context

In order to improve co-ordination of central services, a Director was placed in charge of the newly established Department of Personnel and Administration in 1979.

Further re-organisation in 1985/86 created a Services Division, under the leadership of the Deputy Secretary General of the Council. Personnel now fell within this Division, alongside Marketing and Resources, Planning and Development and Administration. Mary Wratten, the Director of the preceeding Department continued as Personnel Manager.

Scope and content

These are the working papers of the Personnel department. They relate to grade, pay and structure and include the reports and correspondence of the Organisation Working Party and the Department of Education and Science.

There are files relating to the running of the various departments, advisory bodies, individual posts, etc which made up the Arts Council. There are also files relating to reports and inspections, theScottish Arts Council and the Welsh Arts Council.
