The Chinese use the lunar calendar for festive occasions including the New Year which falls somewhere between late January and early February. The cycle of twelve animal signs derives from Chinese folklore as a method for naming the years. The animals follow one another in an established order and are repeated every twelve years - rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. Each animal has particular characteristics and people born in a certain year are believed to take on these characteristics.

Rabbit characteristics

People born in the Year of the Rabbit are kind, virtuous and popular. They are artistic and have good taste, with a liking for the finer things in life. They do not like to argue, prefering peace and quiet. They are compassionate listeners, excellent negotiators and always work well with people. Rabbit people avoid stressful and risky situations and do not like being forced to make hasty decisions. They can also be pessimistic and insecure and therefore do not like changes. However, they have impeccable manners and like to make everyone happy. Rabbit people have very few enemies.
