V&A Christmas Tree 2005, by Kaffe Fassett

For Christmas 2005, the V&A commissioned textile designer Kaffe Fassett to design the Museum's third Christmas tree.Talking about his inspiration for the tree Kaffe says:

'At the age of eighteen I travelled from my small home town in California to NY. At a posh Christmas party given by the famous magazine editor Leo Lehrman I was entranced by a magical tree he had decorated. It was covered in Swedish paper fans. They were round and lacy, in high pastels on cut white paper. The impression it made on me has never diminished.

'Because we are now using a natural, deep green tree, I felt my fans should be rich shades of reds, from hot orange through to deepest magenta and burgundy. Glueing these onto coloured card has been an enormous and joyous task. When I asked for help, the Friends of the V&A turned out in numbers. Our crowning star was designed by Louise Lusby.'

A gift in your will

You may not have thought of including a gift to a museum in your will, but the V&A is a charity and legacies form an important source of funding for our work. It is not just the great collectors and the wealthy who leave legacies to the V&A. Legacies of all sizes, large and small, make a real difference to what we can do and your support can help ensure that future generations enjoy the V&A as much as you have.
