Linnaeus Tripe

An officer in the East India Company army, Captain Linnaeus Tripe (1822 – 1902) is known for his early photographs of India and Burma from the 1850s, many of which were donated to the V&A in the late 19th century. Our collection includes a wide cross-section of his portfolio from India and Burma, including landscapes, architectural photographs, portraits and artifact still lifes.
