In 1877 Queen Victoria was proclaimed Empress of India, and although she never went to India she tried to make India come to her. Not only did she appoint Abdul Karim, the Munshi, as her secretary but she had Osbourne House equipped with an Indian room filled with gifts from maharajas, as well as plundered items such as the contents of the Sikh Treasury. Join V&A Guide Mireille Ellington on a tour of these remarkable examples of Indian design and craftsmanship exhibited at the V&A.
