Lunchtime Lecture: DIVA photo

An opportunity to hear from Kate Bailey, Lead Curator of DIVA talk about the process of curating and creating DIVA – an exhibition that celebrates how generations of trailblazing performers have challenged the status quo and pushed the boundaries of their art. Kate will share insights into the history of the diva from 19th century opera singers to today’s global megastars, considering how the term has been shaped, redefined and reclaimed.

Kate has curated a range of performance exhibitions at the V&A. Recent projects include international touring exhibitions Alice: Curiouser and Curiouser, 2021 and Opera: Passion, Power and Politics 2017. Kate's portfolio of work includes the VR experience – Curious Alice and a range of exhibitions on scenography, design and music including Glastonbury Land and Legend (2015); Music Hall: Sickert and the Three Graces (2013); Space and Light: Edward Gordon Craig (2010) and the award-winning video installation, Five Truths (2011).
