Susan Mowatt, 'Grey Blob'
The first works I saw of Susan Mowatt's years ago were many meters square. In recent years, she has been working on a smaller scale and has developed a fascinatingly pragmatic response to the narrowing of available time to work amidst a life full of young children and teaching.
Grey Blob 117x78 cms, shown here, is a fragmentary and playful juxtaposing of small woven tapestries, collages and drawings. With the possibility of endlessly variable composition and content, it provides a perfect vehicle for an ongoing personal narrative.
