V&A gallery research
How we develop new galleries, test concepts and ideas with our prospective visitors, ask for visitors’ feedback on various different types of interpretation that we are considering, test mock-ups and prototypes for the idaes that we are thinking of using and conduct summative evaluation.
Gallery closures
We aim to open all galleries at all times. Occasionally, galleries need to be closed at short notice. If you are coming to the Museum to see something in a specific gallery, you are advised to call in advance to check before you travel.
History of the Silver Galleries at the V&A
The galleries the Silver collection is now displayed in was the Victoria and Albert Museum’s original Ceramic galleries. These were restored in 1995-6.
Gallery Plays
V&A Gallery Plays tell the story of how and why objects were made and ended up in the Museum. Little Lights Theatre Company work with Museum curators to bring an era of history to life, highlighting important characters involved in the creation of an object, whether it is a member of the Royal Family, a famous artist or designer or just an ordinary person with an extraordinary story.
The new paintings galleries
The New Paintings Galleries at the V& A have just opened to the public. The practical conservation of the paintings started exactly a year ago in November 2002. One hundred and sixty-seven of the 200 oil paintings on display required some work and we had just under one year in which to complete it.
Ballgowns: British Glamour Since 1950
From 19 May 2012 the V&A celebrates the opening of the newly renovated Fashion Galleries with an exhibition of beautiful ballgowns, red carpet evening dresses and catwalk showstoppers.
