The installation of 12 wall-mounted, middle to large-scale monuments and architectural features made of stone, stucco, and terracotta in the two largest rooms of the new Medieval & Renaissance Galleries was, in its dimensions and timescale of 14 months for completion, a project unprecedented in the history of the V&A. Key to this was the close collaboration between Technical Services and Sculpture Conservation.
New furniture galleries
Major new galleries to present the V&A's outstanding British and international furniture from the 15th century to the present day. The Furniture Galleries will focus on questions of form, function, and techniques of construction and decoration, in the creation of furniture for over six hundred years.

Behind the scenes: Installation and removal of mirrors for the British Galleries project
During the course of work undertaken in the Spring of 1999 on the British Galleries project, it was necessary to remove and redisplay a number of large, fragile, highly decorated gilt framed mirrors.
Book display in the British Galleries
The new British Galleries contain 97 book and book-related objects. Each of these require a tailormade cradle or support to allow optimum viewing of each volume within the V& A’ s own guidelines for book display.
