About the Mazarin Chest
The Mazarin Chest, renowned as one of the finest pieces of Japanese export lacquer to have survived from the second quarter of the seventeenth century, is a star item in the V&A's internationally acclaimed collection of Japanese art. マザラン・チェストは17世紀第二四半期に遡る、現存する日本輸出漆器の最高級品の一つとして名高く、V&Aの世界屈指の日本美術コレクションの中でも目玉の所蔵品です。
Treatment of the Mazarin Chest - Conservation programme
Preliminary work began in 2004 to examine the chest, to assess its condition, and to document where and why it was damaged. Five key conservation issues were identified. 2004年に、マザラン・チェストの構造技法と状態を評価し、その損傷箇所と原因を検証するために、事前調査が行われました。
The Mazarin Chest project
The Mazarin Chest Project was a major collaborative undertaking involving conservators, curators and scientists from the UK, Japan, Germany and Poland. マザラン・チェスト・プロジェクトは、英国、日本、ドイツ、ポーランドから保存修復者、学芸員、科学者を結集して行われた大規模な共同プロジェクトです。その焦点となったのは、ヴィクトリア・アンド・アルバート博物館所蔵のマザラン・チェスト。当作品は1630年代後期から1640年代初頭にかけて京都で作られた最高水準の日本輸出漆器の中でも、とりわけ優れた装飾性を誇る作例です。
