This mantua, made of patterned Spitalfields silk, is typical in style and construction of the 1760s. By this time, it was worn only by aristocratic ladies for ceremonies at court.

Study the work of visual artists including Chardin, Hogarth, Canova, Turner, Manet and Rodin in the context of wider political and cultural movements and events. Explore Rococo, Neoclassical, Impressionist and early Modernist art and discuss themes such as taste, patronage, exhibitions and the art market. This course covers the fine arts, including painting and sculpture, and also encompasses design, architecture and popular visual culture.
