This brightly coloured UFO-like chair has a curious Cold War history. The West German manufacturer had illicitly sold its plastics technology to the East. In return, the socialist factory produced about 14,000 Garden Egg chairs, which were then distributed on both sides. (Due to its high cost, however, it was never a popular consumer item in the East.) This particular version is a prototype made in the West.
