Over a series of workshops, V&A Learning has invited a community of collaborators to explore traditional ways of making and the crafts employed in Indian textile manufacture. Together with artist Raksha Patel practical workshops prepare for a shared exhibition of work to be hosted at the V&A in Nov 2015, as part of the Festival of India.
And now that the Fabric of India exhibition has opened the ladies from Harrow Womens Centre were first in line to see the show!
” Visit to V&A museum today to see Fabric of India exhibition. Most spectular, enjoyed by all the Hwc service users who are part of the block printing project running at Hwc”

Some close up pictures are below of the Ealing Mencap block printed frieze of a scene from the Ramanyana that celebrates Rama and Sita’s return from exile, better known as the Diwali Story.
We invited personal responses to gota work at St Hilda’s Community Centre in Tower Hamlets, with a sumptuous choice of fabrics.
Plants and flowers that dye fabric were used as a source of inspiration for sessions hosted at the Penfold Community Hub and Church Street Library.
And an example of some detailed embroidery by a member of the Church Street Library.
Using the ideas and inspiration we gathered on the first session across the project everyone has spent time working on their chosen designs focused on different methods of making.
‘‘It’s been a fantastic project and given us lots of ideas for the future.’’ –Bobby Sidhu, Project Team Leader Ealing Mencap.
