V&A Sanctuary offers teachers the chance to explore different creative practices and techniques with professional artists and designers in a relaxed after work environment. The latest Sanctuary took place last Friday around the theme of photography to coincide with the recent re-hang of the V&A’s photography collection and the opening of ‘Light from the Middle East’ in the Porter gallery.
The Photography session, led by Lauren Winsor, explored the camera-less technique, cyanotype, and also the distortion of existing photographs through colour tinting and embroidery. Teachers used images by Julia Margaret Cameron to experiment with and manipulate. One teacher said after the event ‘I’ve never done anything like this before. It was all totally new to me. Fabulous.’
