Today I went to the studio of one of London’s up and coming shoe designer to pick up a new acquisition that will feature in the exhibition: “Shoes: Pleasure and Pain”.

The exhibition will only open in June 2015. We are 6 months away; however, we are already very busy acquiring new objects for the V&A permanent collection that will be included in the exhibition. Temporary exhibitions give the museum and curators the opportunity to explore a specific subject matter, they are like visual essays and objects within them are essential to tell the story. The V&A holds an outstanding footwear collection including around over 2500 pairs of shoes, here you can browse some highlights of the collection.

If this wasn’t enough, the museum is actively collecting contemporary shoes from young and upcoming designers.

This intriguing pink plastic bag contains one of the several new acquisitions we are processing: a pair of shoes, of course, and this time accompanied by a sketch by the designer.

Follow us and in the next entries, we will discover the journey that this pair of shoes and sketch will have to follow in order to become officially part of the museum’s permanent collection.

This journey will present how objects tell a vital part of exhibition story line, how they are measured, stored, assessed by our conservators and catalogued into the museum database system till the day when the objects will finally be installed in the exhibition space.
