Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter who lived an extraordinary life, filled with passion, pain and vibrant colours. 

Her surreal self-portraits and paintings expressed her own reality, becoming some of the most celebrated artwork of the 20th Century. 

She suffered from many diseases, even surviving a serious traffic accident as a young woman! It completely changed the course of her life, making her the vivid artist she became. Her physical pain was often the theme of her paintings, with disturbing images of skulls, bleeding hearts and daggers featuring heavily!

Frida was fiercely proud of her Mexican heritage and created her own unique look with lavish, colourful traditional dress and creative makeup and hairstyles.

Fame did not find Frida until after her death. In life, she was most well known for her marriage to the famous artist Diego Rivera.
