5 V&A objects that look like Harry Potter characters

Here at the V&A museums, we have over 2.8 million objects – so it is no surprise that some of those are Harry Potter movie character lookalikes! Check this list out and find out who has a doppelgänger in our collection! If you like this list, there are many more Harry Potter quizzes, challenges, polls and fun facts you can look at here.

Dumbledore x Bearded old man bust

An image showing Richard Harris playing Dumblefore from Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone stood with his long white beard trailing down next to a V&A bust of an old man with a similar beard in a light brown cast against a grey gradient background.

Well, this is uncanny isn’t it! We have taken Dumbledore from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone played by Richard Harris and paired him up with an 18th century sculptural doppelgänger! What do you think – could this bust have easily played Dumbledore? We think so!

Bellatrix LeStrange x Le Trachinie

A photo of Helena Bonham Carter playing Bellatrix LeStrange in Harry Potter - holding her arm up and mouth open to something off camera. Her black curly hair is falling in her face and behind her is a brick walled building. Next to her is a poster from the theatrical production Le Trachinie performed in 1980, showing an illustration of a woman with curly hair and mouth open with text in Italian below her.

Bellatrix LeStrange bears a striking resemblence to the illustration of the woman from a poster for a production of Le Trachinie or The Trachiniae by Sophocles and Le Baccanti or The Bacchae by Euripides, Greek Theatre of Syracuse, Italy, 1980. Helena Bonham Carter could have definitely played both roles!

Ginny x Girl with the red hair

A photo of Bonnie Wright who plays Ginny in the Harry Potter film series, smiling at the camera with her red hair falling down to her shoulders next to a painting of a young girl with red hair and a half baked smile on her face.

Bonnie Wright, who played Ginny Weasley in the Harry Potter films, looks so similar to this lovely watercolour painting of a girl with red hair by Benjamin Williams. What do you think makes them look similar apart from their beautiful red hair?

Sirius Black x Unknown man

A photo of Gary Oldman playing Sirius Black in the Harry Potter films looking off camera with a dark background next to an oil painting of a man in a white ruff and cuffs with a moustache and dark hairstyle set against a black background.

This 17th century oil painting of an unknown man, is as mysterious as Sirius Black himself. Perhaps Sirius was the unknown man in another life? Who knows! Harry Potter might have something to say about his uncle being an immortal though. Either way, looks like they went to the same barbers!

Dolores Umbridge x Portrait of an unknown woman

A photo of Imelda Staunton who plays Dolores Umbridge in Harry Potter stood facing the camera holding a wand wearing her pink suit skirt outfit against a grey background. Next to her is a V&A portrait miniature of a lady with grey hair looking to the side surrounded by a black frame.

Dolores Umbridge could have been a subject of a portrait miniature such as the 1772 painting on the right of an unknown lady, possibly someone who was known as Lady Stepney. We wonder if Lady Stepney also liked kittens, as much as Dolores does! Meaow!
