Owls are clever and wise, you see.
Master Owl is just one of the many Christmas cards collected by the artist and author, George Buday (1907–90), for his extensive research on the history of the Christmas card, now held in the V&A.
The V&A’s commercial team made an appointment this week to view some of Buday’s unique and fascinating collection in the Prints and Drawings room. The collection is an archive of 15,431 greetings and Christmas cards, and has been a never-ending source of inspiration and delight for the V&A.
Master Owl possibly comes from the Edwardian period and has been selected for a V&A Christmas card this year
He’s been updated with a touch of flitter, which was a material not unknown to the Victorians and Edwardians as can be seen in these examples.
Be an early bird and catch this three for two, twit twoo offer on Christmas cards.
