Horst: Photographer of Style - Competition: #MyHorstPhoto
This competition has now closed
The winner of our #MyHorstPhoto competition on Instagram has been chosen by Susanna Brown, V&A Curator of Photographs and Curator of Horst: Photographer of Style, and Lucy Davies, The Telegraph’s photography and art critic.
The winning photograph
The judges unanimously selected this photograph submitted by Elbie van Eeden @elbiemuahair as the winner. Elbie (hair and make-up) collaborated with the photographer Cheng Han and model Carmen Obeid to create black and white fashion studies in the spirit of Horst’s 1930s Vogue photographs. She wins a pair of Eurostar return tickets from London to Paris, expert printing and framing by John Jones for the photograph, a £750 shopping gift card courtesy of exhibition partners Bicester Village, exhibition tickets, book and goody bag from the V&A Shop.
Susanna Brown said:
‘These elegant and atmospheric photographs were particularly inspired by Horst’s mastery of studio lighting and love of surrealism. Lucy and I were impressed by how closely the team had studied the photographs in the V&A exhibition.’
Lucy Davies added:
‘Elbie and her team demonstrated a real understanding of Horst's stylish, yet playful spirit. I very much liked the detail of the earring's shadow’.
Since launching the competition in August 2014 we have received over 900 entries from around the world. With hundreds of photographs to review, our judges praised the variety of entries inspired by Horst’s iconic black and white images, colour photography and atmospheric approach to lighting.
