Pomni was originally a frog!
Before she became the anxiety-ridden jester we know and love, Pomni was originally designed as a frog-like character. Creator Gooseworx even shared the early design, nicknamed Frogni (aww!), before transforming her into the red-and-blue jester we recognise today. Imagine the entire circus with a little frog hopping around instead!
The pilot broke YouTube records
The first episode premiered on 13 October 2023 and reached an incredible 100 million views in just one month! It went on to become YouTube’s most viewed animated pilot EVER.
The creator voices Bubble
That floating, teeth-filled bubble who follows Caine around? He’s voiced by Gooseworx herself! The creator, writer and director also provides the voice of the Moon. So next time Bubble says something completely crazy, remember that it’s the person who invented the entire circus speaking. Cool!
Jax has Looney Tunes DNA
Ever wondered why Jax looks like he belongs in an old school cartoon? His design takes inspiration from classic animated characters like Bugs Bunny. The entire circus cast is inspired by different forms of entertainment, from Kinger’s chess-piece body to Ragatha’s rag-doll appearance.
A terrifying sci-fi story inspired the colourful circus
Despite its bright colours and silly characters, the show takes inspiration from I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream, a disturbing science fiction story by Harlan Ellison about humans trapped by a powerful computer. The circus conquered Netflix without leaving YouTube
When Netflix picked up the series in 2024, Glitch Productions didn’t abandon its YouTube fans. New episodes were released on both platforms on the same day, meaning viewers could continue watching the indie animated series for free. A pretty awesome achievement for a show that began as a YouTube pilot!
