Help us ‘Masquerade’ at the Museum this week …

This week, visitors to the Museum will be able to take a sneak-peak at an exciting interactive being created for the new Europe 1600-1800 galleries.

‘The Masquerade’ is an interactive film, offering a fictional view of 18th-century Venice. By interacting with our mischievous guide Harlequin, visitors will be able to shadow the main characters as they enjoy the entertainments and revelries of Venetian Carnival.

The Masquerade will help demonstrate how people behaved and moved in the mid to late 18th century. It will also allow us to see how objects similar to those on display (such as fans, masks and clothing) would have been used.

STEP THIS WAY!

The interactive element of the film is still being developed and so we are inviting visitors to come and experience the interactive and give us their feedback. We are very excited about The Masquerade and are keen to hear from as many of you as possible.

If you are able to come and Masquerade with us, here is the key information:

  • Testing is taking place Tuesday 6th – Friday 9th January (11am – 5pm) & Saturday 10th January (11am – 3pm)
  • The activity and the short interview will take around 15 minutes.
  • The testing will take place outside the Architecture galleries (room 127). Follow the signs from the main entrance to find us.
  • Come and put your name down on the hour from 11am to 4pm. We will give you a time slot within the hour on a first come first served basis.
  • The interactive is aimed at all ages and everyone is welcome!

If you have been following this blog you will no doubt be thinking that The Masquerade is something we have somewhat been keeping under our hats until now. A great deal of research, development, unusual activities and general hard graft have been taking place behind the scenes to bring it to life. I will provide further insight to some of this in future entries …

Hi,
I was one of a few who had the wonderful opportunity of appearing in the masquerade!
Thank you so much for this amazing experience.
Lee Cunningham (Miss)

Dear Lee,
We’re so glad that you enjoyed the whole experience – it was a lot of work but also rather fun I think.
I’m planning on writing a blog post explaining more about the making of The Masquerade (including lots of nice photographs from the filming weekend) in the future so keep checking back to the blog.
All the best,
Dawn
