Our Top Moments of 2023
2023 is coming to an end so we wanted to share our top moments of the year! What's been you favourite moment? Let us know ☺️
1. We are 5!
We turned five and celebrated with everyone who has supported us (that's you!) with a day packed full of fun.
2. Big Yin aka Billy Connolly (and his cauld bum!)
The Scottish legend that is Billy Connolly shared his thoughts on tartan for World Tartan Day!
3. Swifties Era
We're in our Swifties era and you can't stop us.

4. Glen Affric
Scotland’s oldest tartan was discovered by The Scottish Tartans Authority earlier this year. The Glen Affric tartan can be dated back to around 1500-1600, making it the oldest known surviving specimen of true tartan in Scotland. It's currently on display in our Tartan exhibition (which closes 14 January 2024, don't miss out!).
5. Tartan opening
Tartan is the first major exhibition in Scotland in 30 years to focus solely on the iconic textile and pattern. With over 300 objects showcasing tartan’s universal and enduring appeal with examples of fashion, architecture, graphic and product design, photography, furniture, glass and ceramics, film, performance and art.
6. New York Tartan Week
Continuing our celebration of Tartan, we headed to the Big Apple to be part of the 25th NYC Tartan Day Parade (It was incredible AND there were lots of cute dogs dressed in tartan).
7. Lavender Labels
At the start of the year, we introduced new objects into our galleries which explore themes such as women in architecture, activism, LGBTQ+ history, and how design has impacted our town centres and mental healthcare.
8. Succession
The season finale of Succession was coming up and it had us reminiscing back to when the team were here filming the infamous ‘Dundee’ episode back in 2019. You know the one cough Kendall’s rap cough.

9. V&A East
Our family is growing and in November we saw the iconic V&A sign being put in place for V&A East opening in 2025. How exciting!
10. TikTok
This year we had a LOT of fun creating a new style of content, have you followed us on TikTok yet?
