Orla Kiely A Life in Pattern

The renowned designer tells the fascinating story behind her iconic brand and design ethos

Based on her shared passions of colour, pattern and good design, the brand’s personality follows the simple philosophy that the graphic style Orla so adores can bring joy to many. Her work is often described as ‘Happy prints that make you smile!”, a creative integrity she holds close, and underpins the company mission.

As designer, businesswoman and eponymous brand, Orla will reveal the joys and pitfalls of balancing creative and commercial aims when working in the public eye.

Orla Kiely OBE founded her business in 1995 to realise her dream of bringing modern mid-century inspired pattern, a hint of 1960’s cool and the comforting nostalgia for the time into everyday 21st century life. The brand is now loved and stocked around the world.

This talk coincides with Orla’s exhibition, A Life in Pattern, at Dovecot Studios in Edinburgh.
