Robots interact with humans, but could they ever truly be your friend?
In this creative workshop you’ll explore the possibilities, challenges and pitfalls of this very contemporary question. Taking the potentially extreme viewpoint that the key elements of friendship – communication and understanding – are challenged when a person can’t speak, you will develop ways to broaden your ideas from concept to reality, through conversation and creative design activities.
This workshop is led by Rolf Black, a researcher in assistive technology, specialising in supporting people who are unable to speak and have additional physical disabilities. As a member of the University of Dundee’s Augmentative and Alternative Communication Research Group, he is exploring the boundaries of using artificial intelligence for technology to develop from helping, to being a constructive collaborator in communication without natural speech.
