Reopening Sat 1 May
Our architect Kengo Kuma discusses the importance of nature to design
Join us for a special evening with Kengo Kuma to celebrate our first birthday, to hear about how designing V&A Dundee has informed the National Stadium, the main venue of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The stadium is one of the biggest projects Kengo Kuma has participated in to date, situated in green parkland in central Tokyo and built using wood sourced from every region of Japan. The exterior of V&A Dundee was inspired by the cliffs of north-eastern Scotland, and inside the use of natural light and wood helps create a calm environment for visitors to relax and enjoy themselves.
Kengo Kuma will present his approach to design, the links between the two projects, and discuss his belief that the National Stadium should be “a symbol of a new age, a new period of natural design”.
Doors open at 19.00, followed by the talk at 20.00 and a book signing afterwards. Tatha Bar & Kitchen will be open for drinks throughout the evening.
