Assemble: Making Room and Other Projects

When starting out on a project, what kind of critical framework does the designer need to establish?

Adam Willis and James Binning are two founding members of the award-winning architecture and art practice Assemble, our current designers in residence. They will explore their current project with the museum and Dundee Libraries, Making Room as well as detailing their approach to making and production in a variety of other projects. They will discuss how each project strikes a balance between establishing clear parameters on the one hand, and allowing for chance and embracing the unexpected on the other.

Throughout the summer Assemble, V&A Dundee and Dundee's Central Library will be working in close collaboration with a group of local people. Through a series of workshops the group will produce a new interior room inspired by local architecture. This will take shape from 21 March within the galleries, before being moved to the Central Library later this year where it will function as an area for digital learning and making for the city.

Founded in 2010, Assemble is a multi-disciplinary collective working across architecture, design and art. In 2015 Assemble won the Turner Prize, the UK’s most prestigious art prize, for their urban regeneration project in Toxteth, Liverpool.

This free talk will be held at the Steps Theatre in the Central Library in Dundee. Doors open at 10.30. All welcome.
