From the personal to the political, clubs and club culture play a major role in contemporary life, offering space to find like-minded people and moments of collective joy

Join artists Jeremy Deller and Vinca Petersen, along with design historian Dr Cat Rossi to explore how these spaces intersect with wider society. Through a discussion of key works by each artist, the conversation will look at how and why club culture should be preserved, protected and promoted.

Jeremy Deller won the Turner Prize in 2004 and represented Britain in the 55th Venice Biennale in 2013. He has been producing projects over the past two decades which have influenced the conventional map of contemporary art. He began making artworks in the early 1990s, often showing them outside traditional gallery spaces.

Vinca Petersen is a multidisciplinary artist who works in the area of social practice. Her works emerge from her deep social and political engagement with underrepresented communities in order to give them a voice and recognition and often explores the theme of collective joy.

Dr Catharine Rossi is an Associate Professor in Design History at Kingston School of Art, London. Her research interests include club culture, Italian design, and craft, past and present. She has curated exhibitions and installations for the Venice Architecture Biennale, ICA and Vitra Design Museum.
