Free family fun at V&A Dundee this summer
V&A Dundee is offering a free family-friendly programme of design-themed workshops and activities throughout the summer, inspired by current exhibitions Catwalk: The Art of the Fashion Show and Design and Disability.
Encouraging creativity, play, and learning for all ages in an inclusive and welcoming environment the summer programme is made possible thanks to players of the Postcode Lottery.
Highlights include BeatBlocks Live, an interactive music experience using building blocks, and Every Body Designs!, fashion design workshops inspired by body diversity.
Throughout the summer holidays, visitors can drop in to V&A Dundee’s learning studios and enjoy lots of inclusive ways to play including LEGO® Architecture Studio, Braille Bricks, dress-up boxes, drawing materials and more.
V&A Dundee has sensory play areas and inclusive resources to support disabled visitors as well as self-guided trails like seek + peek! and the Selkie Trail for family exploration. Facilities include free admission, baby changing, breastfeeding-friendly spaces, picnic areas, a quiet room and daily opening hours from 10:00 to 17:00.
BeatBlocks Live 11 July – 09 Aug 12.30 – 16.30 (Free, drop-in)
For the first time ever, BeatBlocks Live is coming to Dundee. This interactive music experience transforms building blocks into musical sounds and turns physical play into beats, melodies and harmonies in real time. No screens, no controllers, just hands-on creativity! Designed for all ages.
Every Body Designs! 11 July – 09 Aug 12.30 – 16.30 (Free, drop-in)
Join V&A Dundee’s team of friendly designers for fashion design activities that explore the many ways we dress, style and move our different bodies. New designs by comic illustrator Cat Laird set the scene for your family’s creations. Strike a pose and use live-projected digital drawing to bring your unique colourful fashion sketches to life. Designed for all ages.
Play Your Way! 28 June and 30 Aug 10.30 – 16.30 (Free, drop-in)
A flexible and fun design playground for all ages to enjoy, supported by a friendly team of designers. Experiment with giant Imagination Playground blocks plus design challenges to help the whole family get creative together, from classic tabletop games to costumes and drawing materials.
Shake, Rattle, Stroll 29 June and 31 August 10.00 – 14.00 (Free, drop-in)
Move and make some noise in these interactive workshops led by Dundee's multi-award-winning dance company Shaper/Caper. With instruments, stories and dressing-up, these workshops are suitable for under 5s and their adults.
Shake, Rattle, Stroll: Love 29 June
In June, during Pride month, Shake, Rattle, Stroll will explore stories inspired by love and how families come in all shapes and sizes.
Shake, Rattle, Stroll: Senses 31 August
In August, Shake, Rattle, Stoll will explore how our wee ones make sense of the world, focusing on connecting, positioning and rotating.
