Tartan with a Twist is the inspiration for V&A Dundee’s 2023 Christmas gift collection

Collaborations with designers working across fashion, comics, jewellery and textiles have delivered a desirable collection of tartan treats, taking inspiration from the blockbuster Tartan exhibition and the newly designed V&A Dundee tartan created by Kinloch Anderson.
The V&A Dundee tartan, in its distinctive monochromatic palette with a splash of shocking ‘Schiaparelli pink’ was designed in a way so that it could continue to be re-interpreted by other designers, picking up on a theme explored in the Tartan exhibition that tartan’s iconic grid pattern continues to offer unlimited inspiration.
From Dundee designer Jo-AMI’s mismatching tartan socks to a limited-edition luxury tartan scarf handwoven by Glasgow micro-weavers VEVAR; tartan wrapped marmalade chocolate bar; plaid woollen creature by knit designer Donna Wilson; Gnasher ‘tartan bone’ dog bowl and tartan cuff bracelets from jewellery designer Jenni Douglas, the colourful collection has considered gifts for all.
The new V&A Dundee x BEANO collaboration sees much-loved comic book characters, Dennis, Gnasher and Minnie sporting splashes of tartan in an inspired new collection that includes prints, tote bags, t-shirts and Gnasher bowl and mug.
V&A Dundee has also teamed up with Scottish contemporary fashion designer Charles Jeffrey Loverboy to design an exclusive fashion and lifestyle collection. Retailing exclusively through V&A Dundee’s online shop and in-museum store, the collection includes a monster illustration football scarf, two t-shirts plus badges, keyrings and incense cones packaged in a keepsake tartan tin.
Two new limited-edition screenprints, of Kengo Kuma’s iconic riverside building by designers Fraser Taylor and Morvern Graham add to V&A Dundee’s interior and homeware collection.
