Afternoon Tea

Fancy an extra special treat?

Our Tartan Afternoon Tea is a nod to the origins of the ritual and its links with Queen Victoria, who was said to be an ardent fan of afternoon tea at Balmoral from where she, along with her husband Albert, embraced tartan and inspired a tartan “craze” across Britain in the mid-19th century.

It is understood that her Lady in Waiting, Anna Maria Stanhope, the 7th Duchess of Bedford, was too hungry to wait for dinner and started requesting a selection of small sweet and savoury bites in the early evening to stave off her appetite.

Crafted to celebrate our local produce, with a twist inspired by our global influences, this special treat includes a “Scotch Madras” Spiced Haggis Samosa inspired by the indigenous textiles of Indian Madras, a Game Pie inspired by the portrait of Lord Mungo Murray and a Japanese-style Braised Beef Bun inspired by the tartan-loving subculture of Harajuku street fashion.

A twist on the traditional Victoria Sponge Cake with Rhubarb & Ginger Jam and Vanilla Buttercream completes this decadent tartan feast.

Afternoon Tea must be booked at least 24 hours in advance.
