Scottish Dance Theatre: storage for future sunsets
Dance performance within and around Up-Sticks
In this unique collaboration entitled storage for future sunsets, Scottish Dance Theatre dancers will inhabit the exhibition space in a performance devised in collaboration with choreographer Janine Harrington.
Up-Sticks by Gramazio Kohler Research and students of the MAS Architecture and Digital Fabrication at ETH Zurich is a timber structure inspired by traditional construction methods and made using a collaborative human-robotic fabrication technique.
In her work with the dancers, Harrington has looked playfully at how humans are programmed to make memories and how we store our experiences and expertise.
storage for future sunsets is a work exploring how we learn and communicate through our language, movements, sound and touch; how we pass on information, how it’s received, learned, developed and evolved. The piece moves in response to the space offered by Up-Sticks; as a dwelling place or meeting space, a shelter, a bridge, a skeletal remain, a portal, an instrument.
Based at Dundee Rep, Scottish Dance Theatre is Scotland’s leading contemporary dance company. Janine Harrington is an artist based in London.
