This free drop-in event, organised in collaboration with Abertay University, showcases video games from developers highlighting accessible design and adaptive controls.
From exploring natural landscapes in VR to escaping a bakery using sound, these games aim to level the playing field and create inclusive experiences for all players.

Rhizoma VR: RNIB XR Toolkit Edition
This is an immersive virtual reality experience designed to explore human connection with nature in an increasingly urbanised world, as part of a collaboration between the Royal National Institute for Blind People (RNIB) and Abertay University. Exploring deserts and forests, the VR experience contains accessibility features for blind and partially sighted people (BPS). Developer: Abertay University

Non-visual Navigation (Untitled)
This project will offer attendees the opportunity to play through a stylised first-person shooter dungeon crawler experience using non-visual cues. Players will be tasked with trying to traverse through the space using an auditory systems and purpose-built vibrotactile “gauntlets” that use vibration to guide them. This work is based on existing research in the field of blind navigation. Developer: Abertay University

Asymmetric Multiplayer (Untitled)
This multiplayer game offers a short age-appropriate free-for-all shooter experience where players can drop-in and drop-out. This experience explores player attitudes of fairness in competitive settings. In the game, the better you are doing, the more your avatar will stand out visually. Whereas, if you fall behind, then you will blend in with your environment. Developer: Abertay University

Memory Through Touch
Memory Through Touch is a post-graduate research project exploring co-designed game development and people living with dementia. This prototype is based on reminiscence therapy, a form of non-medical group therapy involving holding picture books, photographs, and objects from participants individual pasts as a form of memory sharing and storytelling. Obliterate
Who gets to play high-intensity competitive games? Obliterate is a three-player arcade game which uses a series of subtle changes to try and even the playing field. As you play, the system might be using a number of subtle changes to help your opponents out, or they may be helping you. Developer: Abertay University

Blind Bake
Play as a croissant and escape the bakery! Blind Bake is a small experimental game built to showcase audio navigation through 3D levels. It hopes to teach gamers and developers some basic methods of guiding players without sight through spatialised audio. It is the proud recipient of the ReadSpeaker GGJ Accessibility Award.
