DCA Screening: Highlander + short film (15)

Saturday, 10 June 2023

Join us at DCA for this special screening of short film UnTyMe followed by Highlander on 35mm to celebrate our exhibition Tartan.

This screening will be introduced live by James Wylie, one of the curatorial team behind V&A Dundee’s Tartan exhibition, along with UnTyMe Filmmaker Nick Hadfield and musician HforSpirit.

Russell Mulcahy’s 1986 fantasy adventure Highlander chronicles the climax of an age-old war between immortal warriors, depicted through interwoven past and present-day storylines.

When Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) survives a wound that should kill him in a battle in the Scottish Highlands in 1536, his clansmen believe his recovery to be the work of evil forces and banish him from their village. Years later, after being befriended and trained by a Spanish swordsman, Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez (Sean Connery), Connor learns the truth; he is part of a group of immortals who are destined to battle one another until only one remains.

While it wasn’t well-received by critics when it was first released, Highlander went on to become a cult classic, much-loved by people all over the world - and we’re delighted to bring it back to the big screen.

Plus, short film UnTyMe

Part documentary, part contemporary folk tale, UnTyMe follows a tripped-out retreat made in 2020 by musician HforSpirit, filmmaker Nick Hadfield and a troupe of artists and friends to the abandoned Skull Quarry for an impromptu rave in nature, tracing the ritual energy of rave culture back to the pagan practices of Celtic folklore.
