Mothers under the Frame: Seeing, Sensing, Saying
Friday 10 July
A creative invitation for mothers and caregivers to step into the frame
Museums are changing, but mothers are still too often only seen as caregivers. This art-based research workshop invites you to step into the frame: to reflect, express and reimagine how museums can better see and support you.
We'll create a collaborative poem from a word-collecting walk through the museum, then design self-portraits of your 'everyday me' and 'museum me'. Then, together, we'll craft and build a mini 'ideal museum' model, sharing our vision for change.
No experience or design skills are required! Just your voice, your story and your imagination.
This workshop is for mothers and caregivers. Children are welcome to attend with their caregiver and they can choose to join in throughout the session, a comfortable and playful space is shared by everyone taking part.
'Mothers under the Frame' is part of a PhD research project from the University of Glasgow's School of Education, exploring participatory and feminist approaches to museum practice.
