Plastic Fantastic

Saturday, 13 May - Sunday, 21 May 2023

An exhibition of garments inspired by our recent exhibition, Plastic – Remaking Our World created by Dundee & Angus College HND students.

These garments were designed using the Subtraction Pattern Cutting technique. This method of “hollow construction” was created by fashion designer Julian Roberts and makes the most of the negative spaces that can be opened up in fabric resulting in experimental garments that break the boundaries of the usual garment shapes.

Students were set a design brief to create a subtraction dress using recycled and unusual fabrics, including plastic with some using a sewing machine for the first time.

Each garment contains a personal message, often using stitch as vehicle to make their voice heard.
