Prosopagnosia

An Animated Short by Steven Fraser

This stop motion film tells the story of an animator’s experience with face blindness, a condition that makes it hard to recognise faces. The film reveals a fragmented world where identity and memory flicker in and out of focus, building a world through cut-out collage, frame-by-frame manipulation, and experimental texture. Steven, who identifies as being on the autism spectrum, brings a unique creative perspective on disability to this film. Prosopagnosia is a creative way of showing what it’s like to experience the world differently.

Prosopagnosia was developed with support from the Scottish Documentary Institute and had its world premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival 2021. It has won many awards: Experimental Film award at the Marvels of Media Awards in New York 2022; Best Mini-Doc at the Sebastopol Documentary Film Festival; Experimental Award at the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival. Steven is a graduate of Abertay University’s Game Art and Animation master’s degree and lives in Glasgow.

The film contains brief drawings of nudity, sexual content, adult language, and flashing lights. Recommended for audiences 16+.
