An international symposium on the history, future and power of tatreez
Tatreez is the ancient practice of elaborate hand-embroidery in Palestine. The cut, colour, material, and motifs within historic embroidery and dress operate as a language as much as a craft. It tells stories of Palestine’s remarkable regional diversity and the lives of its people.
This symposium invites speakers from Palestine, the UK, and beyond to unfold some of these lesser-known stories and share new research from the field. Panels and presentations will explore Palestine’s influence on Scottish and British design, textile activism, dyeing practices, and contemporary fashion.
As an extension of Thread Memory: Embroidery from Palestine, the symposium will weave in findings and learnings on the roles and responsibilities that cultural organisations hold whilst Palestinian objects and stories are in their care.
Full programme details to follow. Tickets will include access to the day’s full programme and refreshments. This is a non-profit event and the cost of your ticket will cover the costs required to run this event.
We don't want pricing to be a barrier so we have a limited number of free spaces available for those who need it. To request a free ticket, please contact our team via email or call +44 (0)1382 411611.
Thread Memory: Embroidery from Palestine is made in partnership with Art Jameel, the Palestinian Museum, V&A South Kensington and V&A Dundee.
