The Met Gala 2024 is right around the corner, so we’re celebrating by rounding up some of our very favourite looks from throughout the years. The Met Ball is regarded as the world’s biggest and famous fashion evening – so it’s a pretty big deal! Without further adieu, here’s our top 10 Met Gala outfits, from Billie Eilish to Taylor Swift!
Zendaya – 2018
Back in 2018, the theme for the Met Gala was “Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”. For this Gala, Zendaya really stole the show with an armour style metal silver dress. The actor was inspired by Joan of Arc, who was the daughter of the Roman Catholic Church and supposed to represent freedom, independence and had early feminist beliefs.
Billie Eilish – 2021
In 2021, Billie Eilish wowed fans wearing a huge Oscar de la Renta dress to the Met Ball. The singer was honouring the late model and actor Marilyn Monroe, who wore a similar dress to the Oscars back in 1951. We think Billie looks amazing!
Rihanna and A$AP Rocky – 2021
The ultimate power couple, Rihanna A$AP Rocky couldn’t be missed when they showed up to the Met Gala in 2021. For this look, Rihanna sported a black Balenciaga hooded dress, while her partner A$AP Rocky wore a multi-coloured ERL quilt over his suit! The quilt was supposedly inspired by a similar blanket found in a charity shop in the states!
Doja Cat – 2023
Okay this one is pretty iconic! For Doja Cat’s first ever Met Gala, she stepped out dressed as Karl Lagerfeld’s famous cat Choupette! She really took her singing stage name literally for this one! Doja even made her face look like a cat and slinked up the stairs in a silver sparkly and feathery dress, with cat ears on the top – of course!
Jared Leto – 2023
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any more extra – actor and singer Jared Leto took it one step further! Jared also came dressed as Choupette, but he fully went for it. He showed up in a full cat costume, and looked like a human sized feline as he graced the ball. Apparently Jared’s aim was to look as real as possible – we think he did it!
Kim Kardashian – 2021
Kim K surprised everyone in 2021 by wearing a fitted black dress – which entirely covered her face and her body! The dress was a Balenciaga outfit and received a lot of attention at the time from people online as it was so unusual – we think it’s pretty cool though – and very memorable!
Taylor Swift – 2016
Wow Taylor looks so different here! Back in 2016 the theme for the Met Gala was Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology – and Taylor went for it! She wore a Louis Vuitton metallic dress for the ball, with shoes that wrapped up high around her legs. Her hair was in a cool bleach blonde cropped doo and she wore a gothic dark lipstick.
Florence Welch – 2012
This look is from over 10 years ago! For this Met Gala, Florence Welch (aka Florence + The Machine) wore an Alexander McQueen silvery dress which was full of tassels and frills to make it as eye-catching as possible. We think she looks great!
Miley Cyrus – 2013
Okay, now this is a look! Back in 2013, the theme for the ball was Punk: Chaos to Couture and Miley showed up in style! At the time she was sporting a blonde short hair doo, which was perfect for gelling up in true punk style! To top it off she wore a fishnet style long dress – we think the 70s would be proud!
Beyoncé – 2015
Wow! Beyoncé sure knows how to steal the show! In 2015, the superstar wore this stunning glittery Givenchy dress to the ball. The theme that year was China: Through the Looking Glass and we think she slayed!
