Agents of Change: Designing for Our Times

Can ideas change the world?

Design for Our Times showcases seven projects at the forefront of sustainable design. The contemporary designers, artists and researchers featured demand a sustainable future by questioning established norms, re-visiting time-honoured materials and practices, and proposing practical solutions to issues of waste and overconsumption. From materials to processes, these innovative projects explore new possibilities and foster groundbreaking new ideas that could help tackle some of biggest challenges of our contemporary age.

Join us to deep-dive into the design process behind some of these projects and discover how designers are developing ingenious circular solutions and using and repurposing unexpected materials in new ways to tackle some of the issues created by climate change.

Susanna Beaumont, Curator of Design for Our Times and founder of Design Exhibition Scotland, will be joined for this online panel discussion by:

Dr Sam Chapman & Prof. Gabriela Medero | Kenoteq

K-Briq, created by Kenoteq, is a building brick made of over 90% construction rubble that does not require firing. Produced in East Lothian, this groundbreaking brick has the potential to transform the construction industry.

Ffion and Steven Blench | Chalk Plaster Chalk Plaster is a Fife based duo who collect stones from local beaches to make pigment and revive time-honoured processes using gypsum for contemporary & sustainable application.
Maria Lander and Peter Large | Future Practical

Future Practical is a research-led design practice based in Glasgow, they investigate alternative means of production through responsible sourcing, designing for circular use and democratising the design process.

Design for Our Times is on at V&A Dundee until Monday 13 June 2022. Free entry.
