I am Annabel Sowemimo, a sexual and reproductive health (SRH) doctor and founder of community-based organization – Decolonising Contraception (DC). DC is a community organization formed by Black and people of colour (BPOC) working within SRH who wish to address the colonial history of SRH in particular, the unethical experimentation on BPOC and the limited narratives on their experiences. DC is about understanding how culture and history impact these populations and shape our experiences of healthcare. My interests include addressing gender-based violence and improving SRH access for people of colour. I’m a regular columnist for gal-dem and a freelance journalist, having written for the Independent and Metro Online. I am also a trustee for Medact Charity.
