Our artists in residence are getting ready for London Design Festival at the V&A and throughout London. The London Design Festival is an annual event, held to celebrate and promote London as the design capital of the world and as the gateway to the international creative community. The Festival will be held 17-25 September 2016.

V&A Finnish Institute in London Ceramics Resident Pauliina Pöllänen will present a site specific sculpture, When the Pike Sang, the Birds Were Still , in the live fountain in our Medieval and Renaissance Galleries. Pauliina’s sculpture references the heritage of stone fountains and Della Robbia’s neighbouring terracotta roundels, the pioneering architectural ceramic art of that period. This will be on display in Gallery 50A, just off the Museum’s main entrance.

Here are some sneak peak pictures of Pauliina’s work in progress in her studio!

Pauliina will also hold Open Studios where the public will be invited to explore and engage with Pauliina and her work in her studio. This will take place in her studio in Gallery 143 on the 6th Floor of the V&A, on Saturday 17th and 22nd of September from 1 – 4pm both days. Please come along to see more of Pauliina’s intriguing sculptural work!
