We’re introducing our four new volunteering roles at Young V&A in the run-up to our 1 July opening. In April we introduced the Playmaker, and this month we are filling you in on what it might be like to be a Young V&A Storymaker.

Storymakers will ignite the imaginations of young visitors, inspiring them to use objects in the collection to create their own stories and ‘feed’ them into the ‘Story Machine’ interactive.
You’ll encourage visitors to let their imaginations run wild, taking their stories to ‘The Stage’ and animating their performances with the help of the ‘The Wardrobe’ interactive – a small walk-in room filled with objects to encourage movement and creating new characters.
A typical day might entail:
- Supporting young people to tell stories using the collections and interactives
- Encouraging visitors to explore different ways to perform on ‘The Stage’
- Demonstrating how to get creative with shadow puppets
- Ensuring visitors are informed about programmed performances on ‘The Stage’ and encouraging audience engagement in this area
You don’t need any specific skills or experience to be a Storymaker. However we’d love you to be passionate about supporting young people to express themselves creatively through stories and performance, enjoy getting creative, and provide a joyful and welcoming experience to the vast array of people that walk through the doors.
How do I get involved?
