Our doors open in July, and to celebrate we are hosting a Summer Festival. We do hope you can join us on 8 – 9 July, as we bring together local artists, designers and performers for a weekend of family-friendly creative activity.

The festival will include opportunities to play, imagine and design with creative professionals throughout the museum. Sustainable fashion label, Aesthetic Laundry, will share their skills in our Open Studio, and you will have the chance to meet designer Clara Chu, who up-cycles household objects into fashion accessories in The Shed, our in-gallery design studio. You could make a wearable shadow puppet with prop and puppet designer, Isobel Irwin, or create new characters and spaces with actor Sapphire Joy in The Stage. Universal Boardgames will host a games café for teens, and there will be a relaxed sensory and creative play space for families with children under 5s. There’s going to be something for everyone.
On Saturday 8 July a spectacular performance programme on the Town Square will include dance troupe IMD Legion, Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalists. Feet Off the Ground will perform from their show Creature Comforts, an adventure bursting with dance, theatre and circus. And we’ll treat music lovers with sets from Grand Union Orchestra, a collective of musicians from around the world. Meanwhile the magnificent fully articulated octopus puppet Ocho will parade the museum gardens.

On Sunday 9 July we’ll inspire you with international performance troupe The Majorettes, who will share their world-class hula hooping skills in a participatory workshop. And we’re excited to have local young talent with One Youth Dance, who have dazzled us with their skills in jazz, contemporary, hip hop and fusion. Music will include a new composition from Soundbox, an all-ability inclusive music collective from East ndon and beyond, and new works from Keynote Opera.

Throughout the weekend, Leap Then Look, who create innovative contemporary art projects for people of all ages and abilities, will be inviting audiences to completely transform the space into an ever-evolving collective art piece.
This festival will mark the beginning of an exciting summer of creative activities at Young V&A. We hope you can be part of it!
