Glastonbury Festival Pack Down…

July 8, 2014

The happy revellers have left another great Glastonbury Festival and the pack down – theatre’s biggest ‘get out!’ – is over. Extremely organised site and production management oversee the de-install of the pop-up festival and the landscape re-emerges, ready for the return of the dairy cows.

The pack down is an exciting time for the museum curators and archivists. What remains? What is recycled? What to collect? Which key tangible things will in the future enrich memories and stories and help us document the intangible moments of Glastonbury 2014? Which objects will support the filmed material collected during the festival – from tents up to tents down, from all points of the festival compass?

As well as the big picture – the maps, the programmes, the installations, the posters and the festival ephemera we will archive specific material from each of the stages, including:

  • Information relating to the stage management and organisation – running lists, set lists
  • Designs, stage plans and lighting plots
  • Material relating to individual performances
  • A selection of photos of performers, both onstage and backstage, and audiences
