Details
This print, showing Alice under attack from a flurry of playing cards, is taken from one of John Tenniel’s original illustrations for the first edition of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
British artist Sir John Tenniel created his illustrations as a series of woodblock prints, and their fine lines and rich detail formed the archetypal visual incarnation of Carroll’s Wonderland. Tenniel was knighted in recognition of his work in 1893, the first illustrator to receive this honour.
