Making paper

October 8, 2014

As a bonus we were able to spend a day at Jang Ji Bang (Jang’s Paper Room) where Jang Youn Hoon showed us the whole process of making paper from the mulberry fibres grown on his land.  This process, where the fibres are boiled, hand cleaned, beaten to a pulp and cast on a bamboo frame to form a paper sheet created beautiful paper that was then pasted to dry on a hot metal wall before being finished.  The variety of paper this mill was able to make is amazing ranging from gossamer thin sheets to thick sutra paper.

At the end of the day we returned to Seoul and had a well earned drink at a local bar.
